LTS Theological Journal.
Every solid school should have a way to express itself in written form. This is all the
more crucial for a theological institution. For one's testimony in the world one must let
people know what one's position is in matters of doctrine and church life. Thus is
dictated the necessity of a theological journal.
LTS Rector Fr Alexei Streltsov had pondered publishing a periodical since the seminary
was started. But it was not until Sergei Glushkov from Ekaterinurg gave his valuable input
that the idea of a journal took on more specific form. The journal will be published in
the Russian language. Summaries of journal items will be given in English. The publication
will contain information for LTS prospective students, describing the seminary in general.
There will be theological articles both written originally in Russian and translated from
other languages. The journal will contain news from the mission field where LTS students
are working. The future development of the journal may lead to its division into 2 parts:
a purely theological journal for scholars and pastors and an informational magazine about
West Siberian Christian Mission for the laity in the church and for anybody interested in
Lutheranism. For the present, however, these two parts will be covered by one title.
The editorial board will include some LTS staff as well as pastors and deacons of WSCM.
Fr. Alan and Patricia Ludwig will give especially valuable assistance, as they are
experienced in the editing and laying out of Logia, a journal of confessional Lutheran
theology.
The title of the journal has not yet been determined, but if nothing better is
proposed, it will simply be called The Seminary. The periodical will be issued two times
per year. The first probing issue is planned for the autumn of 2000 (about the time of
Reformation). It is expected that a certain part of this issue will be dedicated to the
summer theological seminars held in Irkutsk, Novosibirsk, and Ekaterinburg in July 2000.
Theological articles will be topics pertaining to the Old Testament, New Testament,
Dogmatics, and Church History. About half of the research articles will be written
specifically for the journal; the other half will appear for the first time in Russian
translation. This first issue will be programmatic for the future production of the
journal.
